obsidian-second-brain is a cross-CLI skill package that connects an Obsidian vault to command line coding assistants so the vault becomes persistent memory for the model. One codebase serves seven assistants, including Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Antigravity, Hermes and Pi, through a single Agent Skills build. The README frames the problem as two disconnected tools: assistants that start every session from scratch and note vaults that nobody maintains. Around 43 to 46 slash commands cover the workflow, and the README suggests starting with three of them, /obsidian-init to set up the vault, /obsidian-save to capture material and /obsidian-find to recall it. The project describes itself as an evolution of the LLM Wiki pattern published by Andrej Karpathy: rather than only appending new pages for each source, it rewrites existing pages so people, claims and stale facts are updated in place, while /obsidian-reconcile resolves contradictions automatically and /obsidian-synthesize looks for unnamed patterns and writes synthesis pages on its own. Notes use an AI-first format with a preamble aimed at the next model session plus frontmatter for retrieval rather than human review, and a freshness policy called Open Knowledge Metabolism marks every stored fact as timeless, dated or a pointer so the knowledge base does not fill with facts that used to be true. Other documented features include live research from the web, X and YouTube through Brave and Tavily sources, Google Calendar access, local Whisper transcription of voice memos via /obsidian-ingest, a command that documents a codebase, secret detection, supersession-aware search, a write-time validator, a /create-command interview flow, multilingual triggers and four role presets for developers, founders and operators, writers and researchers. It is MIT licensed with a CI suite of 198 tests.
