OpenAdaptAI/OpenAdapt
OpenAdapt is an open-source project focused on AI-First Process Automation using Large Multimodal Models (LMMs). It acts as an adapter between these advanced AI models and traditional desktop and web Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs), aiming to automate repetitive GUI workflows that typically require significant mental effort. The project leverages foundation models like GPT-4 and ACT-1 to enable powerful automation capabilities. OpenAdapt records screenshots and user inputs, aggregates and visualizes this data for development, converts it into tokenized formats, and generates synthetic inputs through transformer model completions. It also works on generating process graphs by analyzing recording logs, which is a work in progress. Unlike traditional Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools, OpenAdapt uses Large Multimodal Models to automate tasks, making it model-agnostic and capable of working with all types of desktop GUIs, including virtualized environments like Citrix and web interfaces. It automatically generates prompts by learning from human demonstrations, which grounds the AI agents in existing processes, reducing hallucinations and improving task success rates. The project is open source under the MIT license, promoting transparency and community collaboration. Installation is supported via scripted methods for non-technical users and manual setup for technical users, with dependencies including Python 3.10, Git, Tesseract for OCR, and node version manager. The project provides commands for recording user interactions, visualizing recordings through HTML or a web dashboard, and replaying recorded actions using various strategies, including naive, stateful, visual, and browser-based replay strategies. OpenAdapt also offers a system tray icon and web dashboard for ease of use. Overall, OpenAdapt represents a cutting-edge approach to process automation by integrating AI models directly with user interfaces, aiming to save time and reduce repetitive manual tasks through intelligent automation.
