Biomni is a cutting-edge general-purpose biomedical AI agent designed to autonomously perform a wide variety of research tasks across multiple biomedical subfields. It integrates advanced large language model (LLM) reasoning with retrieval-augmented planning and code-based execution to significantly boost research productivity and facilitate the generation of testable scientific hypotheses. The project features two main components: Biomni-E1 and Biomni-A1. Biomni-E1 is a unified environment that systematically mines and curates essential tools, databases, and protocols from tens of thousands of biomedical publications spanning 25 domains. This comprehensive mapping of the biomedical action space allows the AI agent to access a broad spectrum of specialized resources, enabling novel capabilities across diverse biomedical fields. Biomni-A1 is a generalist agent architecture that combines LLM reasoning with dynamic retrieval and execution capabilities, allowing it to compose and carry out complex biomedical workflows without relying on pre-defined templates or task-specific tuning. This flexibility enables Biomni to tackle a wide range of tasks such as gene prioritization, drug repurposing, rare disease diagnosis, microbiome analysis, and molecular cloning. The project is actively being prepared for a full open-source release, with a web-based user interface available for early access through sign-up. The developers encourage contributions, especially in adding specialized tools, data, workflows, or reporting issues. Biomni represents a significant advancement in biomedical AI by providing an autonomous, versatile, and scalable platform to accelerate biomedical research and discovery.
