Netbox-agent is a project designed to automate the creation and updating of hardware inventory within the Netbox infrastructure management platform. It leverages standard system tools such as dmidecode, lldpd, and others to gather detailed hardware and network information from servers and virtual machines in an infrastructure. It also supports IPMI interfaces and can associate VLANs to interfaces. The agent can intelligently guess datacenter and rack locations using customizable drivers, and it can update existing devices and interfaces, handle blade server movements and GPU expansions, and automate cabling by parsing LLDP data. Additionally, it provides local inventory management for components like CPUs, GPUs, RAM, RAID cards, and physical disks, and it can report power consumption based on vendor tools. The agent integrates with virtualization clusters by associating hypervisor devices and virtual machines. It requires Netbox version 3.7 or higher and Python 3.8 or higher, along with several dependencies and system tools. Configuration is flexible, allowing overrides via command line, environment variables, or config files, and supports features like network updates, inventory updates, and location updates. The project also includes advanced features for blade servers and drive attribute processing, enabling detailed tracking and management of hardware components and their attributes within Netbox. Overall, netbox-agent streamlines infrastructure management by automating the synchronization of physical and virtual hardware data with Netbox, enhancing accuracy and reducing manual effort.
