ARGO is an open-source desktop client for building and using AI agents that plan and carry out multi-step tasks. Its defining property is local operation: the application runs as a native client on Windows, macOS and Linux (with a Docker option), stores all data locally, and can work fully offline, which the authors present as the answer for users and organisations that cannot send their material to a hosted service. Models come from either side of that line — open-weight models can be downloaded in one click and served through Ollama, while API providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic and DeepSeek can be configured alongside them, and the user can switch between a local model and an API model inside the same conversation. A multi-agent task engine decomposes a request into steps, calls tools, executes the stages and produces a written report, which the project positions as a local deep-research capability. An agent factory creates purpose-built agents from a natural-language description, so a user can ask for a travel planner, an industry analyst or a legal assistant without writing configuration by hand. The knowledge layer is an agentic RAG engine that ingests files, folders and websites, keeps watched folders synchronised, and in agentic mode decomposes a complex question into sub-queries before answering. Built-in tools include web crawling, browser control and local file management, and the MCP protocol is supported so external tool servers can be attached. A self-evolving mode that learns user habits and tunes agents automatically is described as still in testing.
